Today, most trade shows are sample fairs. They have replaced the older type of fairs where merchants presented and sold their goods directly to the visitors. With sample fairs, it is now possible to present the products more thoroughly. Additionally, they are cheaper because the transportation costs are much less than those in prior times when it was necessary to ship the various products to the trade shows.
